The Challenge
Rachel was matched with Dr. Sarah Lin during intake — a senior trauma therapist with over a decade of EMDR practice. Dr. Lin's approach was non-confrontational: she spent the first three sessions simply building safety and mapping Rachel's landscape before trauma work began.
EMDR was introduced carefully. Rachel was sceptical — the eye movement protocol sounded almost too unusual to take seriously. Dr. Lin didn't push. She explained the mechanism, offered alternatives, and let Rachel choose the pace. Treatment unfolded across four phases over nine months and twenty-two sessions.

I was sceptical. I'd read about EMDR online and it sounded almost too strange to take seriously — moving your eyes while thinking about the worst things that ever happened to you. But I was also desperate. I'd run out of other options.
Rachel formally completed her treatment plan in late 2023. The quality of change shifted from symptom relief to something harder to name — a sense that the past had become truly past, rather than a weight she carried into every present moment.
She still teaches. She still values her privacy. But she moves through the world differently now. Sleep has improved. The hum of dread, which she'd accepted as a fixture of her inner life, is gone. She now sees Dr. Lin quarterly for maintenance check-ins.
